West Africa Water Initiative (WAWI) – Water Chemistry Field Manual Release 1.2. Desert Research Institute Division of Hydrologic Science (2005). Thomas J.M. & Lutz, A.

The water chemistry field manual is designed for personnel who collect and evaluate groundwater data for the West Africa Water Initiative (WAWI) projects. Desert Research Institute (DRI) is helping WAWI partners’ staff with the development of field methods, water chemistry data collection, and the evaluation of water chemistry analyses. Within the manual are protocols for conducting water chemistry measurements at a well and collecting samples for laboratory analyses. Standard methods of making water chemistry field measurements and collecting samples for analyses are essential to ensure technical reliability and overall consistency of water chemistry data for the WAWI projects. Thus, protocols presented in the manual provide personnel with reference material for field water chemistry measurements and sampling. This manual is organized such that particularly useful pages can be photocopied for field use. Suggested equipment types and information on replacement and repair is given in the Appendices. The manual is based on existing DRI documents, other reference material such as Standard Methods, US Geological Survey sampling procedures, and information obtained from field experience in Ghana, Mali, and Niger. As such, it is a living document, which will be reviewed, revised, and reprinted as necessary. This is release 1.2. HYPERLINK
