Welcome to WAWI website. I hope that as you view our site you will appreciate the richness of our partnership. Our partnership is moving at a fast pace toward the end of its first phase. The second phase will run in the form of network where more partners in West Africa would be involved. The initial geographical location of Ghana, Niger and Mali will be expanded to include Burkina Faso. The focus would still be on water, sanitation, hygiene, advocacy and governance.

We celebrate that over 1,000,000 people benefited from WAWI projects in Niger, Mali and Ghana. The celebration of the Year of Sanitation and the World Water Day (March 22) offered opportunities for lobbying for both increased and improved access to water, hygiene and sanitation facilities. WAWI made a tremendous contribution to the improvement of living conditions in Ghana, Niger and Mali. This contribution includes:

  • In Ghana:
    - 679 wells drilled and 38 old systems rehabilitated
    - 16 small water supply systems constructed.
    - 6,257 household latrines and 100 school latrine blocks constructed.

  • In Niger:
    - 228 wells drilled and 61 old systems rehabilitated.
    - 131 school health and sanitation clubs established
    - 2,469 household latrines and 75 school latrine blocks constructed.

  • In Mali:
    - 799 wells drilled.
    - 9 small water supply systems constructed.
    - 20,442 household latrines and 127 school latrine blocks constructed.

All partners remain committed to the cause of the communities in the targeted areas and we look forward to a sustained expanded partnership.

Thank you.
